Production of ¥â- Mannanase by an Alkali - tolerant Bacillus sp. YA - 14

Abstract

|
A strain of alkali-tolerant Bacillus sp. YA-14 was isolated from soil. The strain was capable of producing a large amount of the extracellular ¥â-mannanase. The optimum cultivation temperature and pH for enzyme production were 37¡É and 9.2, respectively, with the optimum production medium composed of 1% locust bean gum, 1% polypeptone, 0.5% NaCl, 0.1% K©üHPO©þ, 0.02% MgS0©þ.7H©üO, and 0.2% Na©üC0©ý. ¥â-Mannanase from Bacillus sp. YA-14 was induced by ¥â-mannan but not by glucose under catabolite repression.
